I was asked to serve on a 'Youth Justice Committee' around 1997.
This committee was made up of volunteer people who had skills that were deemed valuable for mediation between victim and perpetrator.
A police officer was on the committee. A school teacher; and I was really encouraged to take part in this program.
The goal was a type of reconciliation between parties through unbiased mediation.
I was greatly honoured, at that time, to be asked to serve on this committee but I declined due to personal job responsibilities that curtailed my time. The volunteer hours that would have been required of me were, simply, not possible with my three growing sons... at that time.
